Cooking Steps

1
1

• Preheat oven to 240°C/220°C fan-forced. • Finely chop garlic and onion (see ingredients). Slice tomato into rounds. Slice cucumber(see ingredients) into half-moons. • In a small bowl, combine Greek-style yoghurt and tahini. Season to taste and set aside.

2
2

• Heat a large frying pan over high heat with a drizzle of olive oil. • Cook pork mince, onion and currants, breaking up with a spoon, until just browned, 3-4 minutes. • Add garlic, tomato paste and Middle Eastern seasoning and cook, until fragrant, 1 minute. • Add the water and butter (for the filling) and simmer, until slightly reduced, 2-3 minutes. Season to taste.

3
3

• In a small microwave-safe bowl, add the butter (for the filo pastry). Microwave in 10 second bursts, until melted. Lay filo pastry sheets on a dry surface and fold in half. • Spoon pork mixture in the center of filo sheet. Fold sides over and roll into a cigar.

4
4

• Place on a lined oven tray. Repeat with remaining filo sheets and pork mixture. • Brush cigars with butter, sprinkle over sesame seeds and bake until golden, 15-20 minutes.

5
5

• Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine tomato, cucumber, mixed salad leaves and a drizzle of white wine vinegar and olive oil. Season to taste.

6

• Divide Middle Eastern pork filo cigars and cucumber tomato salad between plates. • Serve with tahini yoghurt. Enjoy!

Review summary

Updated on Feb 2026
  • Flavour: Many enjoyed the tasty and interesting flavours, though some found the spice blend too strong and added their own seasonings.
  • Ease of prep: Rolling the filo cigars proved tricky for some; clearer folding instructions and using two sheets per cigar could help.
  • Suggestions: Consider adding more filling to each cigar, and experiment with cheese for a flavour variation some customers enjoyed.
  • Next-day meals: The cigars make for a delicious feast that can be split into two separate meals.
