Cooking Steps

1
1

• Preheat oven to 240°C/220°C fan-forced. Cut potato into fries. • Place fries on a lined oven tray. Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and toss to coat. • Spread out evenly, then bake until tender, 20-25 minutes.

TIP: If your oven tray is crowded, divide between two trays.

2
2

• Meanwhile, thinly slice spring onion. • Grate carrot.

3
3

• In a large frying pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium-high heat. • Add diced bacon and cook, breaking up with a spoon, until golden, 6-7 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl.

4
4

• Return frying pan to high heat. Cook beef mince (no need for oil!), breaking up with a spoon, until just browned, 3-4 minutes. • Add All-American spice blend and cook, until fragrant, 1 minute. • Remove pan from heat, then add baby leaves, BBQ sauce and a splash of water. Stir until wilted. • Add shredded Cheddar cheese over beef mixture in pan. Cover with a lid (or foil) so it melts.

5
5

• Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage mix, carrot, mayonnaise and a drizzle of white wine vinegar. Season to taste.

6
6

• Divide potato fries between plates. • Top with cheesy beef and sprinkle over bacon. • Garnish with spring onion. Serve with creamy slaw. Enjoy!

Updated on Feb 2026
  • Flavour: Many enjoyed the tasty, flavourful dish; some found it a bit salty or greasy due to the bacon and mince.
  • Ease of prep: Quick and easy to prepare, though some struggled to achieve crispy fries with the provided potatoes and instructions.
  • Suggestions: Consider pre-boiling potatoes for crispier fries; try reducing salt or using leaner mince for a lighter version.
  • Portions: Generally satisfying portions; some suggested it could easily feed an extra person with added sides.
  • Variations: Some reviewers enjoyed it as a baked potato instead of fries; others recommended adding sour cream or tomato paste.
